Edit Your QR Menu by Talking to ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to your QRbox account and turn a photo of your paper menu into a QR menu, change prices, add photos or translate the menu by asking in plain language.

· 6 min read

QRbox works with ChatGPT. Once you connect your account, you can ask ChatGPT to work on your menu the way you would ask a colleague: "here is a photo of our menu, put it online", "raise every coffee by 5 lira", "translate the desserts into English". ChatGPT makes the change in QRbox, and it is live behind your QR code right away.

Connect QRbox to ChatGPT

You need a QRbox account with at least one menu, and a ChatGPT account that can add custom connections. That is a feature of ChatGPT's paid plans; in a workspace, your administrator may have to allow it.

  1. In ChatGPT, open the Plugins page (chatgpt.com/plugins), click the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server. If you do not see that option, turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT's settings first.

  2. Give it a name, for example QRbox, and enter this address as the server URL:

    https://qrbox.menu/api/mcp

  3. Choose OAuth as the authentication, accept the notice about custom servers and create it.

  4. ChatGPT sends you to QRbox. Sign in if you are asked to, check what ChatGPT will be able to do, and press Allow access.

  5. Start a new chat, type @ and pick QRbox.

That is all. Try it with "List my QRbox menus".

ChatGPT's menus change from time to time. If a label here does not match what you see, look for "custom MCP server" or "connector" in its settings.

What you can ask

  • Attach a photo of your printed menu: "Add everything on this menu to my QR menu."
  • "Show me the menu of my cafe."
  • "Add a category called Breakfast, and add menemen for 180 and a cheese toast for 140."
  • "Raise all prices in Hot Drinks by 10% and round them to the nearest 5."
  • "Mark the lentil soup as sold out." And later: "The lentil soup is back."
  • "Translate every item that has no English name into English."
  • "Add a photo to every item that has none."
  • "Latte comes in small for 90 and large for 110."
  • "Move the soups to the top, and move the baklava to Desserts."
  • "Add German to the menu and translate everything."
  • "We are closed on Mondays now, and the Wi-Fi password is guest2026."
  • "How many people opened the menu this week compared with last week?"

What ChatGPT can do in your account

ChatGPT can Details
Read your menus Categories, items, descriptions, prices, price options, badges, calories, allergens and ingredients
Read your settings and visits The menu's settings, and how often guests opened it per day
Add Categories and items, one at a time or a whole menu at once
Change Names, descriptions, prices, price options such as small and large, the hot / vegan / new badges, visibility, sold-out status, calories, allergens and ingredients
Change many prices at once Up to 500 items in one step; either all are saved or none
Add photos From the QRbox photo library, for items and category covers
Reorder The order of categories and items, and moving an item to another category
Change settings Name, currency, contact details, Wi-Fi password, working hours, layout and color theme
Change languages Add or remove a menu language and choose the main one
Delete Categories and items

Some things stay in the QRbox editor: uploading your own photos, the logo and background, the menu's custom address, and creating or deleting a whole menu.

ChatGPT cannot see your password or your payment details, and it cannot change your subscription.

Good to know

  • Changes are live immediately. There is no draft. What ChatGPT changes is what your guests see the next time they open the menu.
  • Read what it is about to do. Before a change, ChatGPT shows the action it wants to take in QRbox. Check it before you approve, especially for deletions.
  • Deleting cannot be undone. If you only want something off the menu for a while, ask ChatGPT to hide it or mark it sold out.
  • Check prices after a bulk change. Ask "show me the new prices" and read them once, as you would after editing them by hand.
  • From a paper menu. Attach a photo of your printed menu and ask ChatGPT to add it. ChatGPT reads the photo itself, so check the prices against the paper once it is done. Items that are already on your menu are left as they are.
  • Photos. ChatGPT can only use photos from the QRbox library; it cannot upload a photo you send it in the chat. When the library has no photo of a dish, the item is left without one. If ChatGPT replaces a photo you uploaded yourself, your photo is deleted.
  • Menu languages. ChatGPT can add a language to your menu and translate into it. A language you remove is no longer shown to guests; its texts are kept in case you add it back.
  • Trial and subscription. A menu can be edited through ChatGPT while its trial or subscription is active, the same as in the editor. After that ChatGPT can still read it.

Disconnect

Open Account in QRbox. Under Connected apps you see every app that has access, when it was connected and when it was last active. Click Disconnect next to ChatGPT and its access ends at once. Changing your QRbox password also disconnects every connected app.

You can also remove QRbox from the Plugins page in ChatGPT, which stops ChatGPT from using it.

Privacy

When you ask ChatGPT something about your menu, QRbox sends ChatGPT what is needed to answer: the menu content listed above, the menu's settings (such as your address, phone number and Wi-Fi password) when the question is about them, and the number of times the menu was opened when you ask for visits. ChatGPT handles that under OpenAI's own terms and privacy policy. QRbox does not send ChatGPT your password or your payment details, and the visit numbers are counts only: nothing that identifies a guest. Our privacy policy has the details.
